Google TV to launch in the UK within 6 months


Google TV is set to be released in the UK in the next 6 months.  Google TV is an internet TV service that allows people to switch between television and the web on the same set is to be launched in the UK by Google.  Google TV has been live in the US for the past 12 months with set top boxes from Logitech and built into Sony TV screens.  

The “Google TV” innovation will also mean that viewers can watch material from catch-up services such as BBC iPlayer and ITV Player on their main TV screen as well as high definition YouTube clips.

Google TV hasn’t been a massive success in the US.  Logitech have recently cut the price of it’s set top boxes to $99 in an attempt to boost sales.  At one point it was rumoured that Logitech were receive more set top boxes back than it was selling.

According to the company, Google TV will allow people to search all of the content on the TV and the internet by using a single click.  The service will also allow viewers to switch between the TV and the internet on their main screen without having to adjust any cables.

Google will attempt to boost the service by allowing users to use their smartphones and iPhones to control the devices instead of a remote control in order to compete with high end remote controls such as Logitech’s Harmony remote.
